A temporary installation consisting of 60 flowers arranged mathematically in the exhibition space with an artificial LED lamp to light the work and a wall mounted sign with the following text “On Saturday 18th Feb 2012 a large but unknown amount of photons traveled approximately 92,955,807.3 miles to this room and were used by the plants to make food ” The installation draws the viewers attention to the enormity of the universe via the seemingly insignificant process of photo synthesis performed by the flowers. The use of 1AU in the title references the distance measurement system based on the ‘astronomical unit’ one of which is equal to the average distance from earth to sun.
