This sculptural piece consists of a simple archive box, from which emanates a looped, recorded SOS message, on behalf of the planet. The recording calmly repeats the following “Please help us. We messed things up here and urgently require a helping hand. Can you come to our aid and save us?”

The piece plays on the idea that humanity is consuming the world’s resources, whilst exponentially expanding across it’s land masses, and therefore setting in motion the destruction of our home. If there was a possibility of being saved from this fate by other sentient beings, the message would need to be sent at the speed of light.

Instructions on the archive box read “Due to the distance from Earth of closest possible aid, this message needs to be sent via radio waves at least 4.2421 years before the earliest intended receipt.”
